Mass Detainment

One of the primary ways we know about China’s mass detainment of Uyghurs starting in 2017 is from China’s own state statistics. Refer to Figure 1:
The data from these statistics come directly from China's Statistical Year Book and Supreme People’s Procuratorate, who are responsible for publishing the arrest statistics. They published a combined arrest report from 2013-2017, so subtracting from the previous years, the 2017 arrest numbers can be calculated. 2013 is not given, but the 2014 report states that there was an increase by 95.7%. Therefore, the 2013 number can be calculated as follows:

x = 2013 Year
2014 Year = 27,164 arrests

1.957x = 27164
x = 13880.429
2013 = 13880  arrests

2017 Year:

2017 = 330918 - (27164 + 34568 + 27404 + 13880)
2017 = 227902 arrests

As shown, the arrests in occupied East Turkistan in 2017 constitute over 1/5th of China's arrests overall.

We also have documentation of the camps from the
Xinjiang Victim Database. They produced a comprehensive report with hundreds of satellite and ground images of the centers where Uyghur victims are being held. They have 41 of the concentration camps documented. The 647-page report can be found here:

As an example, here is a report of just one of the concentration camps:
Here we can see the GPS coordinates as well as a collection of photos taken over time to demonstrate how the camp changed/formed.
Based on police statements, independent investigative journalism, detainee testimonials, etc. the Xinjiang Victims Database can create a report on the slave labor that takes place at a given camp.
The Xinjiang Victims Database has tens of thousands of documented Uyghur testimony profiles. The list here has 38 profiles of Uyghur detainees known to be at Badaowan Vocational Skills Training Camp.

From China’s own state statistics and the satellite imagery, reporting, and documentation of the camps and facilities, it is easy to demonstrate the existence of these camps and the fact that hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs started to be detained and sent to these camps beginning in 2017.
